The "Restin'" caches are a series that will take you to local cemeteries, places of great historical interest. From pioneers and modern people these places are full of interesting information. Please take your time - walk around, visit with the past. The caches are easy to find. Please respect where you are.
I've known about this cemetery for a while, but only just found out that it appears there has never been a cache here before... very odd. Anyhow, there is plenty of parking on Sexsmith Road, so please do not access from Hwy 7. Cache is located just outside so people navigating with their GPS are directed to the correct location and not to Hwy 7.
Actinolite History
Actinolite is a community on the Skootamatta River in eastern Ontario. It is in the Municipality of Tweed, in Hastings County, on Highway 37 just south of Highway 7 and north of Tweed. When Actinolite was first founded in 1853, it was called Troy. A number of Billa Flint's sawmills were built on the Skootamatta River here. In 1859, it became Bridgewater. In 1895, it was renamed Actinolite after a form of asbestos (actinolite) that was being extracted from open-pit mines near the town
