I lived in Germany for a year (back in 2012-2013) and have very fond memories. Unfortunately, I didn't know what geocaching was back then.
So in 2017, I plan to join Signal as he visits Germany and collect a Dönerstag Souvenir!
Come along and do the same...meet some other geocachers, enjoy a meal or Persian Chai tea and talk all things geocaching.
About Dönerstag:
Dönerstag began in 2007 when German cachers met at kebab shops around the country all at the same time.
The tradition caught on!
These special events are held each year on a Thursday. In German, this makes the name “Dönerstag” a pun: The German word for Thursday is “Donnerstag”. Kebab translates to “Döner”. Hence why for our Brisbane Dönerstag we will meet at a Persian Restaurant that sells kebabs. Just like the Germans who meet at kebab shops!
Last year, over 6000 players attended 233 Dönerstag events. The events were held all over Europe, from Germany and Austria to the United Kingdom and Switzerland. Please join me as I host Brisbane's own Dönerstag.
Where: Ferdow's Garden, 17/165 Moggill Rd Taringa QLD 4068 (Brisbane). This is a Persian restaurant in the Taringa Central building. Please do NOT get confused with Pani Kebabs down the road.
When: 6pm - 8pm - Thursday 13th April 2017
For: Gathering in the German geocaching tradition of Dönerstag, for a meal or Persian Chai tea and to chat about all things Geocaching > Brisbane's own Dönerstag!
Parking etc: There is parking underneath the restaurant. Please allow extra time, as it is a one way strip of road and a little tricky if you are not local. Some close by landmarks? Ferdow's is near Montezuma's, Physio One and Jenny Craig. It is also within walking distance of the Taringa train station and several bus routes.
Directions: Below is a map showing the carpark entrance. If you miss the driveway, just loop around the block again. The purple line is the best approach from the city. The green line is the best approach from Indooroopilly.
How To Find The Geocaching Table: Closer to the date I will book us a table or two depending on numbers. The table will be booked under my name (Angela). I'll try to have a geocaching something-or-other on the centre of the table {perhaps a Signal the Frog toy or an ammunition tin or whatever I can buy between now & then!}.
I hope to see you there!
