Geocache Description:

This cache is ONLY available during Hatchery public hours: daily 7 am- 4 pm.

Welcome to the Spokane Hatchery, operated by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife! Come feed the fish!

The Spokane Hatchery was built in 1934 and is one of the State's original hatcheries.  It is one of the major rainbow trout brood-stock facilities in the state.  Seven million rainbow trout eggs are taken each year, with about 3.4 million shipped to other facilities around the state.  The facility also raises German brown trout, Eastern brook trout, cutthroat trout, tiger trout and kokanee salmon that are released into the waters of far Eastern Washington for the sport and enjoyment of fishermen.  Spokane Hatchery plays a major role in triploid trout production in Washington State.  The hatchery is located on Griffith Springs--a natural cold-water spring that provides ideal breeding water for the young fish.  Griffiths Springs supplies 25 CFS of water to operate the facility.

Hatchery gates are open 7am-4pm daily.  Tours are available, informative and FUN!  Cache is only available when gates are open, DO NOT TRY TO MAKE THIS FIND OUTSIDE THE POSTED HOURS.

The cache is located near coin-operated fish-food dispensers that will let you feed brood-stock fish for 25 cents.  Cache contains a few quarters for junior cachers who might not have any rattling around in their pockets.  Please add quarters if you have extra!

Cache is intended to be handicachable, and there is placard parking nearby. Please message if there is any problem with access and I will adjust the terrain rating.

Placed by permission (Site manager, Brian.) In winter months, the road can be icy. Examine the hill down to the hatchery *before* heading down it. Will your vehicle make it back up?

Congrats to Haminnaro on the super fast FTF!"
