Smelling Cache Traditional Cache

Good short hike (just short of 7 miles RT) to an unusual foothill lake! Much of the way is on old logging roads, but the last bit to the geocache is an easy off trail to the hide.

Smelling Lake is only 6.9 acres, but has a maximum depth of 107 feet!! Good fishing can be had for cutthroat and eastern brook. The shoreline is littered with blowdowns so launching a raft may be dangerous. I recommend using a float tube. I haven't fished the lake yet, but will next spring when it warms up a bit.

I took the Scotty Road approach to this lake. Be careful to park just before the turnaround and gate.

An alternate approach could be from the Lime Kiln Trailhead. This is a much longer route, but better parking. I would bike in if you this. Much of the way is bike-friendly. Lot of spurs so refer to maps/google earth.
