Anchorage is part of our 'Adopt a Section' programme. Project Janszoon and DOC partnered with Motueka High School in 2013 when they adopted the area from Anchorage up to the ridgeline that the Coastal Track follows, and dropping down into Watering Cove. The idea was for the site to be large and diverse enough that students can come back to the site year after year and always do something different - and for many subjects to be able to be taught on site. So far they've brought out Year 9 Adventure Skills, Year 10 Science X, Year 12 Biology, Year 12 and 13 Graphics, Year 12 Geography, Year 9&10 end of year activity day students, and students from 'The Base', Motueka High's assisted learning centre. The school has also been part of the dune restoration planting that stretches from the campground all the way along the beach to the track heading to Torrent Bay and Cleopatra's Pool.
This series of geocaches highlight some of the special things that the Motueka High students regularly learn about or have been part of. We hope to add more caches over time to highlight even more of the things you'll find in the area.
The cache:
This cache is an ice cream container and can be found just off of the Coastal Track heading from Anchorage Beach to Torrent Bay. You'll find a log book, pencil and sharpener inside. Please replace all of these items and seal well in the zip-close bag. And don't forget to leave behind the learning card so that others can enjoy the learning twist to this cache, too.
