The Head of Steam is a pub housed in the Grade 1 listed railway station buildings and, it may be accessed directly from Platform 1. The main entrance to the pub is from St. Georges Square.
Being well served by local and regional public transport links, you may choose to leave the car at home and take the opportunity to sample a few glasses of whatever tickles your fancy. That is of course, so long as you're not still suffering from the excesses of the holiday season.
Finding your way back home?
Train station, 0 metres.
Taxi rank, right outside the pub. You could literally fall out of the pub and into a cab.
Free on street car parking (after 6pm), 100 metres.
Bus station, 250 metres.
Those of us that enjoy our real ales will be well catered for as the pub has 10 well maintained hand pumps knocking out the good stuff. There's usually a selection of guest ales, guest lagers, bottles, cider and stouts too.
*Unlike previous years, food is now only served until 7:30pm. A menu is available online at the Head of Steam website and, includes soup, sandwiches, fish n chips, pizza, burgers, etc.
If enough of us want to eat, the pub manager is happy to keep the kitchen open a little later but, I will need to show them that it's worth their while. So, if you are planning to eat after 7.30pm, please be sure to let me know how many in your party will be wanting food. Then a week or two before the event, I'll pass the numbers onto the pub and, let you know whether we've got enough diners to justify extended kitchen hours.
Now for the most important bit... All those unwanted/unclaimed low value Christmas pressies, the ones that'll otherwise just sit in a cupboard, never again to see the light of day; bring 'em along and we'll raffle 'em off. Through your generosity over the last few years, we have made some sizeable donations to many worthwhile causes. Hopefully we can do the same again this year as we continue our support of Holme Valley MRT.
