Geocache Description:

Reach For The Stars

This cache will take you into the Myrtle Beach Convention Center where you will find the South Carolina Hall of Fame. The posted coordinates are to the convention center entrance closest to the Hall of Fame. There are a number of "stars" included in the Hall of Fame, and this cache will focus on those who ventured off our fair planet and into space.

The cache is located on the grounds of the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. When events are being held, there is a parking fee to enter the back parking lot with your car. During quiet times, you might be able to access the parking area without paying a fee. Some attendants might let you in if you tell them that you are geocaching, but not all are aware of the cache or geocaching. Please be mindful that the geocache is a guest here and be kind to the parking attendant if you interact with the person. The container is small and blended well in the environment. Please hide it well so that muggles do not happen upon it.

This replaces an earlier Mystery Cache, GC1RTP7 "To Boldly Go" by MarsOnEarth that was archived on 2/24/2016. The theme is the same but the final coordinants and the clues to determine them are different.

To obtain the final coordinates for the cache, you will need to find information about three South Carolina Astronauts: Ronald Erwin McNair, Ph.D.; Colonel Charles M. Duke, Jr; and Charles F. Bolden, Jr. You can find this information 1. in the South Carolina Hall of Fame, or 2. on this cache page. Both options provide different degrees of mystery and use items A-F below.

The coordinates are N 33° 42.ABC W 078° 52.DEF.

A. McNair: Last digit in year listed in this quote, "In (year), he served as a"
B. Bolden: Last digit in number of hours he spent in space.
C. McNair: First digit of Space Shuttle Mission he flew.
D. Bolden: Last digit of last year he flew combat missions.
E. Duke: Third digit in year below the first instance of "Colonel." This "Colonel" is part of the large name under the picture.
F. Duke: There is a date range for a mission that he flew. It lists the month and two dates (Month, DD-DD). Last digit of last DAY.
