Right Whales off the South Carolina Coast
This life-sized mural of South Carolina Right Whales can be found on the backside of the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Be sure to enjoy the mural, which is listed as an additional waypoint.
This mural is part of a large project known as the "Wyland Walls." Artist Robert Wyland (Wikipedia link), who goes by "Wyland," began the project in 1981 and and painted 100 life-sized murals of marine life in 17 countries and 79 cities across Planet Earth. "Right Whales off the South Carolina Coast" is the 49th mural in the project and was dedicated in 1993. Almost all of the 100 murals feature marine mammals and are painted on large buildings with a few exceptions. Learn more about the artist and see all 100 marine life murals at these links.
The cache is located on the backside of the Myrtle Beach Convention Center parking lot. When events are being held, there is a parking fee to enter the lot with your car. During quiet times, you might be able to access the cache without paying a parking fee. Some attendants might let you in if you tell them that you are geocaching, but not all are aware of the cache or geocaching. Please be mindful that the geocache is a guest here and be kind to the parking attendant if you interact with the person. The container is a little tricky, but should be fun. Please replace it so that it appears to blend in. The hint should help you focus your search.
This replaces an earlier cache, GC1CDZ0 The Whaling Wall hidden by Cache and Dash SC on 05/19/2008 but archived on 4/24/2014. Much appreciation to and permission for placement granted by Paul Edwards, General Manager of the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
