The Millennium Loop is a 7km walking trail in Glengarra woods. The loop runs along both sides of a river valley. One can see some unusual trees, views of the Galtees, an old hunting lodge, and the river itself. The trail is mostly forest roads, and is in good condition with no steep bits. However some of the caches are off to the side, and there is a shallow water crossing at GC6VYK0 Riverdance, so walking boots are recommended. There is a large car park close to this trailhead cache.
The caches around the loop are various sizes, and you will need your own pen for some of them. There is also a bonus cache. Clues to the location of the bonus cache are hidden in some, but not all, of the loop caches. One is looking for the numbers associated with the letters A thru G.
The loop is signposted with white arrows in green circles. A large part of the loop was closed for over a year and many of the signposts were removed. Those that are still there are fine, but one cannot rely on there being an arrow at every junction. Use the caches to navigate the loop, and look for the waypointed turn off after the last loop cache GC6VYN3 The Only Way Is Up. Some online maps are missing parts of the Millenium Loop - in particular the forest road from Absolute Beginners to Love Shack and beyond.
There is little or no phone signal up the valley so it is important to download all of the caches before one leaves home, or at the car park. There are some spoiler pictures, but hopefully they won't be needed.
This trailhead cache is a magnetic key holder. BYOP.
Absolute Beginners by David Bowie was released in 1986 and reached number 2 in the UK singles chart.
