Playa Dorada is a gated community was built from 1978 on around a newly built golf course with some 15 mainly All-Inclusive-Resorts and a few Condos. The development of this areay marks the beginning of the touristic development of the Dominican Republic.
The cache-location is outside the gated community and marks more or the less the end of the touristic development: Playa Dorada is still not fully built and quite a few of the buildings in around the gated communitiy are currently "lost".
As a Playa-Dorada-Resident you can reach the cache via a short walk on the beach. From outside of Playa Dorada you can take a dirt-road to the beach. Leave the main-road and turn to the beach at Reference-Point 1 - keep left at Reference-Point 2. Don't worry about the "river" Munoz - it is easy to cross at the beach.
The Dominican Republic is a free (and still rather secure!) country. If you are a Playa-Dorada-Resident please feel free to tell this to the guards evantually trying to keep you trapped inside your Gated Resort.
If you are still scared: You can walk the beach for about half an hour with almost nothing to your right - and it is worth it! Lots of huge seashells, crabs and lambi to be found on the beach there. After half an hours walk there are some ruins in the bush and then a few fisher-houses and boats. You are likely to see them or their kids if you walk by. Feel free to socialize if you take the long walk. Really: Most Dominican Campesinos are friendly and hospitable folk!
Just behind the Lost Gif-Shop is a place, where the Playa-Dorada Beach-Cleaners park the beach-vehicle and have their siesta daily at noon. If you see them around, they most likely will invite you and share a smile, a coconut or whatever they have with them. So don't worry if you see a bunch of simple folks sitting there.
