Geocache Description:

This one is for lake baggers who like doing some route finding and scrambling. Roughly 10 miles RT and 2500 ft total elevation gain.

Lake Stickney

This lake took me three attempts to find the correct route to it. There is an old trail of sorts that leaves from the gated olney creek road. The old road has been tank trapped here and there. The gate doesn't appear to be locked anymore and I'm seeing people drive in with high clearance 4x4s, but you only can go so far. I would just walk it and play it safe. Not much room for parking or turning around anyway.

The approximate coordinates for the old trail are N 47 55.717 W 121 38.003 It may or may not be flagged when you go.

Different groups have put flags out. In the beginning, you will reach a log. Get on it and follow it a bit and the trail continues on the other side. In general, if  you lose the trail in a meadow....keep to the edge on your right and keep heading straight more or less. You are going to see side trails going off. Don't waste your time. One does take you to Olney creek though and I waded it and bushwacked to a nice pond in my second attempt.  Eventually, the trail hangs a right angle. If you go straight, you soon end at a tarn. The right angle takes you to couple of small stream crossings and after the second crossing, the faint trail heads straight up!. This is the short and steep scramble section requiring use of hands. Put your hiking poles away here. There is a bit of exposure here, but just go slow.  After this, the way levels and you take an indirect route to the lake given the rugged nature of the area.  What I have mentioned here and your research should get you the lake. Ten essentials and telling a buddy where you are going is strongly advised.

The geocache is an .30 cal ammo can. I forgot that I took the logbook out for fixing Franklin Falls cache several weeks ago. There are a couple sheets of map printouts and a sharpie for logging.

There is a $25 dollar movie theater gift card for the first finder.

Be careful and have fun! Oh yeah, bring a fishing pole. Lot of brook trout in this one!

Congrats to X-Huey-Drv and Shaddow for FTF! And thanks for putting in a logbook and pen for me!!
