Geocache Description:

BLOODY MARY

Have you ever heard of a woman by the name of Mary Partington? She's quite the legend here in Lincoln, Nebraska. Mary is often referred to as "Bloody Mary"

She once lived very close to where you are currently standing, If you are reading this from the first stage. This area in the 50's was outside of Lincoln city limits.

She lived alone in a house that was quite run down, She had no electricity or curtains on the windows.

She was a retired school teacher, and from what I have heard she wasn't liked by a lot of the students. She was harassed and bothered almost constantly at her house by kids in the area. They would sneak on to her property, try to break in and just cause havoc in her life. I guess she almost never had glass in the windows because once she would replace them, someone else would come along and break them again.

Mary had pet goats, She loved her goats like they were her children and when they would die she would bury them in her goat cemetery. The local folks thought this was very strange of her and they would torment her about her goats.

One October night in 1966 a man was trying to get into Mary's house through her kitchen window. Mary called the Sheriff to let them know she had an intruder but they were at least 15 minutes away still. When the authorities arrived the man was laying face up in the front lawn under the kitchen window dead, with a huge hole where his face once was. Mary shot him. She was never charged with his death.

About ten years later she finally moved out of her house, into town. Her house was ransacked for anything and everything and was eventually burned down by three boys who were playing with matches. To this day they still claim it was an accident.

Mary passed away in June of 1979, She may be gone but her legend will live on forever. If you go to the exact location her house once stood its surrounded by a forest of trees, but the small portion of land where her house stood is still open. No trees grow there just grass, After 40 years its just grass. You can also walk behind that area and there is a dip in the ground where her pond once stood as well.

Have fun finding this cache. You can find it during the day but it would be more fun if you went at night time, especially the last stage, it will stand out to you at night time. Please replace it just like how you found it. This will take you on a bit of a drive, so be prepared for that :)
