Welcome to Crofton... Small Town - Big Heart!
Crofton is named after James E. Croft, a native of North Christian County. Mr. Croft purchased land and built up the town when the L & N railroad route was settled in 1868. He built and operated several businesses including a flour mill, saw mill, mercantile store, and tobacco warehouse. As with most small communities throughout America, this downtown was once home to many successful businesses. Imagine blacksmith shops, a wagon manufacturer, a two-cell jail and a college in this little town. Old Crofton had a train station with water tanks along the tracks for steam engines. Crofton Hotel was a popular place for visitors, railroaders and locals alike. Most of the original buildings are gone now but some old structures stand in various conditions east and west of the railroad tracks.
Today's Crofton is thriving with a bank, pharmacy, dentist, barber, grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, an elementary school, and several churches. Some of the great hidden gems here are the parks. Most are located on the east side of the RR tracks, but not this one.

P.S. Trains on the rails are pretty common. If you happen to be "stuck" on one side or the other as they pass, there are routes to get out and on your way... but why not stay and stretch your legs? Gazebo close by invites you to check out the trains at a safe distance. Welcome!!
