Der Gelmersee
Ist ein 1929 fertiggestellter Stausee mit einem Nutzvolumen von 13 mio m³. Das Wasser stammt teils aus dem Grimselsee (über eine Stollenverbindung), teils aus dem Einzugsgebiet rund um den Gelmersee. Um den Gelmersee führt ein weiss-rot-weiss markierter Bergweg. Am Nordufer wurde der Weg in die steile Felswand gehauen. Die gefährlichsten Stellen wurden durch Seile gesichert. Absolute Trittsicherheit sind jedoch Voraussetzung. Der Weg ist für kleine Kinder ungeeignet. Während der Schneeschmelze können Bäche den Weg versperren. Die Seeumwanderung dauert je nach Gemütlichkeit und Cachergeschick zwischen anderthalb und zwei Stunden.
Zum Gelmersee führt die Gelmerbahn. Sie überwindet eine Hangneigung von bis zu 106% und ist die steilste Standseilbahn weit und breit (in Australien gibt es eine steilere).
Lake Gelmer (Gelmersee)
Is a reservoir completed in 1929 with a usable volume of 13 million m³. The water comes partly from lake Grimsel (a tunnel connection), partly from the catchment area around the Gelmersee. There is a mountain path around the Gelmersee which is marked white-red-white. On the north side of the lake, the path is carved into a steep rock face along the lake. The most dangerous places were secured by ropes. However absolute surefootedness are required. The path is not suitable for small children. During snowmelt, streams can block the way. The path around the lake requires 1.5h to 2h - depending on your geocacherluck and your fitness.
The Gelmerbahn will lift you up to Lake Gelmer. It is the steepest funicular in Europe.
