In 1982, Memorial Park was completely renovated through the efforts of the Southside Civic Association. A memorial commemorating those residents who gave their lives for our country stands there and is the site of Memorial Day Services. A plaque was added in 2015 honoring the veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq. Art shows and musical presentations offered by the Council of Cultural Affairs are also held at Memorial Park.
Just south of Memorial Park across the street is Our Lady of Victory Church. The parish was established October 22, 1921. The property was purchased in July 1922 and ground-breaking for the church was on March 25, 1923. The first Mass was celebrated July 6, 1924.
On a personal note my wife and I were married in OLV Church and so was my daughter and her husband.
