Geocache Description:

This cache will bring you to a spectacular Dublin building that is not very well known!

The Richmond Surgical Hospital is a magnificent building hidden off Smithfield in Dublin 7. Opened formally in 1901 it replaced a convent that had been there since 1807. It's Indian design is the source of a contested Dublin tale that the original plans were mistakenly switched and this building was in fact due to be built in India, a tale shared with another similarly designed building close by (McKee Barracks) !

An Irish Times article written in April 1901 describes the hospitals many modern features including being "practically fireproof" with "modern ventilation throughout and warmed with filtered air for theatres" designed by the partnership of James Rawson Carroll and Fredrick Batchelor.

To find the catche you must look for a sign on nearby Morningstar Avenue !
