Geocache Description:

Cows have been with us since the early Neolithic period, occupying an important role in our development as a society and culture. This is in tribute to that ubiquitous bovine that has made such an important contribution to the history of the wild, wild, west, including some of history's more famous mavericks .

This cache can be accessed from either the frontage road or the rest stop.

At first glance, Dutch Belted and Belted Galloway cattle look much alike. However, if you saw a specimen from each breed standing beside each other, you'd spot obvious differences despite their similar coat patterns. Originally from Scotland, the Belted Galloway, a beef cattle, is a smaller animal than the Dutch Belted. The Belted Galloway also has a double coat which gives them extra protection in harsh winter areas. Eating a variety of plant material with very little damge, the Belted Galloway produces a high quality carcass at slaughter.

The idea of this series is a community project honoring the Bos among us.

As you drive the road, please feel free to place your own tribute cache to that great animal- the cow.
