Where did Pasco get its name? Virgil Bogue, with Northern Pacific Railroad, reached the area he noted it reminded him of Cerro del Pasco, Peru. Another source says that it reminded him of a town in Mexico with a similar hot, dusty, disagreeable climate. Theory number three claims that before the completion of any bridge construction, passengers and freight were transported across the river on the “Pacific Steamship Company” boats. Continual repetition led to the abbreviated form Pasco.
