Geocache Description:

This Cache is located near the seaside village of Allonby in Cumbria along a part of the route of Hadrians Cycleway which runs along the coast of the Solway Firth from Maryport to just North of the Village.

The village overlooks Allonby Bay on the Solway Firth. The area is within the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), and the historic county of Cumberland. Allonby and the five-mile coastal strip of the Bay affords spectacular views across the Solway to the Galloway hills of southern Scotland.

Allonby owes much of its development to the Quakers and the village is noted for its interesting and historic buildings - The Baths built in 1835 in the cobbled Square (now a private residence), also the large brick building on the roadside which has recently been renovated is the former Reading Rooms which were designed by a young Quaker called Alfred Waterhouse an architect from Manchester. This gentleman later designed the Natural History Museum in London and in total contrast also Strangeways Prison.

The Cache can be found by taking a gentle (depending on the weather.) Stroll or Cycle Southward about a mile from the Village along the Cycle Path. It is worth noting that the Cycle Track becomes a little rougher as you leave the Village. The location may be easy to find but laying your hands on the Cache may be a little more bothersome.

It is not on or under any structure and there is no need to go near any Water. It is located on the ground which is what you would expect.

Stealth may be required.

You will need your own Pen to sign the Log.    Also tweezers may be required.

Plenty of Parking is available in the Village of Allonby. Could be done as a bit of a Cache and Dash as there is a sort of a parking place nearby, but it is a bit rough and you need to be careful if reversing out back onto the road.

Well Done Bankend Bunch for your FTF.
