Geocache Description:

Come join us at the top of the Bodenburg Butte on May 21, 12:00-12:45 as we enjoy the view from the top and the coming of the hiking season again. As many of you know we will be leaving soon, so we wanted to to try and start a new type of event to get people more people out on the trails.

Parking Arrangements
There are two parking areas one on the North sand one on the South side of the butte. The North parking area is a little bigger with restrooms available. There is also a $5 parking fee for the North parking area for the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Parks, Recreation, and Trails organization which maintains this trail. If you have a Alaska State Park pass, it does NOT work here!

Do NOT park on the road if the parking area is full. It may be a good idea to meet up with other cachers somewhere nearby and carpool to the parking area to save space.

🚶

Trail Conditions
The Northern trail is the more maintained of the two trails and is a gravel trail with wooden steps and several switchbacks along the way. That being said, it is still a moderate 1.5 mile hike to the top with a good amount of elevation gain over a short distance.

The south side is more rugged and less maintained although the trail is shorter and more of a straight shot to the top.

🚶

Safety Information
This is a moderate to difficult hike, but a shorter one that offers a great view at the top. Never put yourself in a situation your not comfortable with.

This is Alaska, be aware of your surroundings and be on the lookout for any moose or other wildlife.

If you will be attending, we recommend placing a watch on the page in case of any last minute changes due to weather. Rain or shine we plan to make the hike!

🚶

Additional Information
There are no restrooms after leaving the parking area, so make sure your prepared ahead of time.

If you have a camera, BRING IT!!! It is a great view of the area from the top on a clear day and we will get a group picture once we're at the top and everyone has had a chance to get to the top, say around 12:30.

We will also be at the North trailhead two hours before the event if anyone would like to make the hike up with us, other than that...
SEE YOU AT THE TOP!!!!
