Toothless is the main Dragon in "How to Train Your Dragon", a 2010 American 3D computer-animated fantasy film, loosely based on the British book series of the same name by Cressida Cowell.
The story takes place in a mythical Viking world where a young Viking teenager named Hiccup aspires to follow his tribe's tradition of becoming a dragon slayer. After finally capturing his first dragon, and with his chance at finally gaining the tribe's acceptance, he finds that the dragon bears him no harm and he no longer has the desire to kill it and instead befriends it.
Toothless appears as a Night Fury in the film, the rarest and most intelligent species of dragon there is. He plays a similar role to his book counterpart. Toothless has jet black scales covering his whole body, his sides having small light patches in a pattern similar to that of a manta ray. Toothless possesses two sets of wings - one main pair and one smaller pair near the base of his tail. The front pair are large and allow him to take off vertically. The back set aid him with gliding. When Hiccup takes Toothless down with his Mangler when initially sees him, he injures the left side of Toothless' tailfin. This is later replaced by a mechanical fin that Hiccup constructs himself. Toothless has a rather large scar on his right shoulder/neck which is around a foot in length with a width of about an inch. His eyes are a yellowish-green and they are located very near the front of his face giving him excellent depth perception and reflexes in flight. He can narrow his pupils to slits when threatened or angry, similar to that of a cat. But when he is docile or happy, his pupils dilate and become more dog-like. Toothless gets his name from his sets of retractable teeth.
Toothless is very intelligent and seems to have a dry sense of humour. He generally has a playful attitude although he is a strong and tough dragon when he is needed to fight.
In January 1943 a USAAF Liberator bomber plane crashed at this crossroads. The young American co-pilot Lieutenant Dale Canfield died as a result of injuries sustained from the crash. A commemorative plaque at the crash site and wooden windowsill in Little Newcastle parish church were unveiled in his honour in April 2010. DON'T FORGET TO COLLECT THE BONUS INFORMATION.
