This is a reprisal of a cache I had in this same spot. That one was archived five years ago.
This area was once a family cemetery. From a book I read, it was the Devoe / Johnson family cemetery. From an 1874 map, this land once belonged to H. L. Devoe. H. Johnson owned land south of the railroad tracks. E. 250 was originally called Johnson Rd. I grew up a few blocks from here. In the early 1970s, Russell Ave and the homes were constructed. But this land was left as a playground. I recall stories of folks seeing gravestones here, though I didn't. I have heard from others that lived nearby that a couple of them had gravestones in their yards. I think those were moved, "borrowed." I do recall the the east portion of this playgound was partially excavated and a pipe of some kind was placed. (A small creek is shown on old maps.) The western portion was left undisturbed. I beleive the exact location of the graves to be the northwest portion, where the play equipment now stands. However, the book states that the graves are in the northeast portion. Either way, I don't think they moved the bodies. Otherwise, this land would be homes.
Some of you found the previous cache that was here. But this is a new hide. Feel free to visit again and log a new find.
