Everyone by now has heard the story of the mighty Casey strinking out. The other night Tracey and I were at the park watching a softball game and it went completely different than story we have always heard.
Sitting in the stands the game was really becoming slow to watch. Nobody was scoring at all, coud be called a great defensive game but to me it was a bunch of out of shape men trying to relive their youth. Anyway, in the bottom of the last inning it started getting exciting. Pedroia singles to the outfield to get a runner on base. The next two batters, Nixon and Miller, single to load the bases. Up steps Casey with nowhere to put him so they must pitch to him for the first time today. He hits two monster foul balls and has the count at 0-2. I hear the manager telling the pitcher, don't give him anything good to hit. Next two pitches are way outside running the count to 2-2. Anticipation grows as the next pitch is straight down the midlle. Casey coils into the loaded position and crushes the biggest drive I have seen to date. Was a monster that we later overheard was 396 ft to right center field. Was quite the angle at 96° from home plate. At least on this day he did not strike out, he was 1-1 with 4 RBI and 3 walks.
