Introduction
See Green Chain #1 for cache trail introduction.
Route
Keep along the same path that takes you through the middle of the tennis club (the Green Chain route is well marked). This will bring you to a brick-built footbridge over the railway.
Description
This footbridge appears on a Victorian map of Bromley and seems to be part of a well established route heading North East out of Bromley. The whole surrounding area would have been fields at this time though, with the footpath connecting with Nichol Lane.
The railway line was built by the 'Bromley Direct Railway Company', in co-operation with the South Eastern Railway (SER), to compete with the London, Chatham and Dover Railway, which owned the other Bromley station, Bromley South. It opened on 1 January 1878 and was worked by the SER from the outset. The two companies merged later in the same year. In present time, the line serves only as a shuttle between Bromley North and Grove Park (stopping at Sundridge Park), but there are always ideas floating around for how to improve transport links by connecting Bromley North up with the Underground or DLR networks.
The Cache
You are looking for a magnetic tube. It's not on the bridge.
