A chance to get together with geocachers and talk about all things caching. We are a friendly group who welcome all comers. Come along and share your caching exploits or ask those questions you were previously afraid to ask.
Hopefully, there will be a new Earthcache suitable for beginners published at the museum during the event. Later in the afternoon there will be talks and a trail around the museum.
April 24th marks 100 year since the embarkation of The James Caird, a small open boat used by Shackleton and five members of his Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition to sail from Elephant Island to South Georgia (800 nautical miles) seeking rescue for the remaining members of the expedition stranded in Antarctica after the loss of their ship Endurance. The voyage began place April 24th, 1916. Surviving a series of dangers, including a near capsizing, the boat reached the southern coast of South Georgia after a voyage lasting 16 days. Shackleton and two companions then crossed the island's mountainous interior to reach a whaling station on the northern side. Here he was able to organise the relief of the Elephant Island party, and to return his men home without loss of life.
The museum has a cafe and public toilets. Pay and display car park is not far away.
