This series of caches along the 5th Sideroad in Erin Township, Wellington County, is dedicated to the "bison tube". In our hobby of Geocaching, a bison tube has come to describe a hide that consists of a tube with (usually) a water-tight screw top and a rolled up log inside. Why is this device named after an animal? Well, it's not. You can do a little research on the Internet to figure out why they are named "bison tubes".
Over the years there have been many derivatives of the standard bison tube "capsule". There are scuba, and hexes, and reverse bisons, large ones, even larger ones, and especially large ones. They come in black, red, green, silver, and just about any other colour you can imagines, including (of course) camo!
I hope you enjoy searching for this series. It is designed to be found easiest searching from east to west. There are wide shoulders for car parking in many locations, but certainly not all. Please be careful when pulling your vehicle to the side of the road, and while getting out either side.
In addition to the bisons, there is other wild life in the area. It is not uncommon to see humans walking dogs or riding horses. Of course there are many birds. And while I was placing the caches I was startled to see a deer run out into the road...the deer was startled (briefly) too before jumping over where I had just placed a cache and crossing a farmer's field.
I also noticed a lot of inuksuks along this road while placing this series. I hope you enjoy spying them as much as I did!
