Sino al primo dopoguerra tutta questa zona era acquitrinosa, simile a ciò che attualmente si può osservare alla vicina Isola della Cona. Durante il periodo fascista si decise di bonificare l area, tramite una idrovora che si può osservare a 200 metri da qui (verso sud). l opera prevede una serie di canali di scolo delle acque che confluiscono in un canale principale, il cui nome Brancolo è dovuto ad un preesistente fiume con tale nome. I lavori, iniziati verso la fine del 1926, furono ultimati nel 1938: nella zona continuano ad affiorare copiosamente le acque di risorgiva con una portata di oltre 10 metri cubi al secondo pari a quasi un milione di metri cubi al giorno.

Until the years immediately after the First World War this area was swampy, similar to what you can be seen nowadays on the nearby island of Cona (the area of the mouth of the Isonzo river). During the Fascist period it was decided to clean up the area with a dewatering that can be observed at 200 meters from here (to the south). The works involved a series of drains of the waters that flew in a main channel, whose name Brancolo is due to a pre-existing river with that name. Works began in late 1926, they were completed in 1938: in this area resurgence waters continue to surface profusely with a range of over 10 cubic meters per second equal to nearly one million cubic meters per day.
