Swirling Toilet Water
Which way does your water swirl?
Coriolis Effect is probably the most scientific excuse humans have for
staring into toilet bowls.
The twisting effect of the Coriolis force is real and does influence certain
large things like the movement of air masses, but the effect is so small that
it plays no role in determining the direction in which water rotates as it exits
from a toilet.
Toilets drain in the direction they do because of the way water is directed into them or pulled from them. If water enters in a swirling motion, the water will exit in the same swirling pattern.
If you take a peek around the rim of your toilet, you will see that the water is jetted into the bowl at an angle, which determines the direction the water swirls.
The toilet myth is busted, but don’t blame the Coriolis effect – - - -- -
blame your toilet for being more powerful than the rotation of the Earth.
Before you run out to find this cache take a potty break and take a peek under the rim of you throne.
