Geocache Description:

This is thee gathering after a weekend of searching for CARW2016 caches. Song titles and “not of this world” (sci-fi, fantasy, fiction, etc) is the theme for this year's CARW event. Come as you are between 230-430pm. Everyone looks after their own tab. information about photos and voting, scroll to the death star!

What is CARW2016? CARW= Cache And Release Winter. It is a winter gathering of geocachers from all over Edmonton, the province of Alberta, some geocachers travel from other parts of Canada and the world to attend our local Geocaching weekend long shindig.

What do you do on this weekend? Before the weekend; On Thursday March 17th in the evening about 6pm, the volunteer reviewer Cache Effect & Cache Chameleon will publish the CARW2016 geocaches. You create a pocket query from the bookmark list of geocaches that the volunteer event organizers make, Janski & SigShark will be making the list this year. Attend the kick off event Friday March 18, 2016 (GC –to come). Then from 9am Saturday March 19, to 2pm Sunday March 20, 2016 you find as many CARW2016 caches as you can! There's a Saturday evening caching conversation over coffee event (GC6A1HZ), a Sunday Breakfast event (GC67YVJ) and a Sunday afternoon wrap up event (this event).

CARW2015 had over 125 caches, 3 of these were event caches. There were 7 different cache types including; where-i-go, multi, event, traditional, puzzle, letterbox, and earth caches. CARW is an amazing event where you get to act like big kids, find the caches, have fun, meet other cachers and share in the joy of geocaching! Join us at this event on Sunday afternoon as this is where the prizes are handed out for the geocache finders and the cache owners who hid them.

Can anyone find a cache? Yes, just download the caches and find away!
Can anyone hide a cache? Yes but quality finds take precedence, see our rules by visiting http://www.twilc.ca/carw/index.htm
Can anyone host an event? Yes, please contact the event organizers (click Geocaching Edmonton Community name at the very top). We are not allowed to “stack” events, so events being held in conjunction with CARW need to be in consultation with event organizers.

New Rules this year;

  • If Grandma and a 5 year old, can’t find your cache (due to climbing trees, 10 mile hike, etc), then it really shouldn’t be CARW cache. Consider publishing your cache as a non-CARW cache. CARW caches need to be fun for the whole family, from age 5 to 95, knowing that everyone has different physical abilities. Please no high terrain (T4+) rated caches. Also note that all trees in public spaces in the City of Edmonton, those trees are the property of the City of Edmonton and as such the City of Edmonton does not allow the climbing of trees for cache placement/finding.
  • If you do not submit your hide to Cache Effect by 2359 hrs (1159pm) mountain standard time on Tuesday March 8th, then your cache will not be considered a CARW cache. You can still submit it. You can choose to get the reviewer to publish it, however all late caches submitted after the midnight deadline, will be asked to remove the CARW from the title and from the cache description. We’re taking a zero/no tolerance for late caches policy this year. Why? Last year there was less than half (about 50) submitted by the deadline. After the deadline had passed over half the CARW caches (about 70 more) were submitted. Did you know that each cache takes time for the reviewer to analyze content, verify coordinates, ensure that it complies with Groundspeak/Geocaching rules, and put into the “Q” for publishing. Now multiply that by 100 caches for this weekend caching spree, and that’s a lot of volunteer time. As a sign of respect, late caches will go to the end of the list to be reviewed, and will not be considered for CARW. Make like a Scout and Be Prepared! Don’t miss the deadline!
  • A complete list of rules for hiding caches is available from http://www.twilc.ca/carw/index.htm

This event is for....

  • New cachers to meet some experienced cachers
  • New cachers to hopefully absorb some knowledge from the experienced cachers
  • Experienced cachers to share with new cachers, maybe scare them with horror stories too! http://www.geocaching.com/images/icons/icon_smile_evil.gif
  • Work on CARW puzzles that you haven’t solved yet, & compare answers, hopefully right answershttp://www.geocaching.com/images/icons/icon_smile_question.gif
  • Drop off, pick up, and discover Travel Bugs
  • Sign log book (or not), count it as a find!http://www.geocaching.com/images/icons/icon_smile_big.gif
  • Geocaching families who want to meet up with other geocaching families
  • Maybe you've never attended a geocaching event but want to see what one is all about
  • Hang out, eat, drink(pop, hot drinks, and adult beverages), share stories and have fun! Before we all collapse from the lack of sleep and serious caching that we did.
  • Meet at co-ords between 230pm to 430pm. Everyone looks after their own tab. Prizes will be drawn at random throughout the event, you must be present to claim your prize. There will be a score sheet, for paper voting and online voting. If you are hiding a cache, please contact CanadaRSMY and tell her your GCcode, Cache name, and category that you would like to be voted on.
