We have always realized that alien technology might be beyond our understanding, but ordinary chemistry should be the same everywhere. However, evidence recovered at the location where Dr. Okun was rescued indicate that their knowledge of chemistry far exceeds our own. For example, several documents (which may have been produced in haste) refer to the compound

which according to our science can't even exist. Another, which includes a highly radioactive artificially-produced element that might be used to fuel their spacecraft, is

which, from a chemical perspective, makes no sense at all.
