This series of caches is set on the Trelissick Estate, owned by the National Trust. This area is one of the Happy Spaniels' favourite walks as it has fields, trees, woods, water and mud. These caches are set on a circular walk we normally do, but depending on where you park, there are other options to extend the walk
Whichever way you do the walk, take time to explore Roundwood Quay, which is maintained in excellent condition by the NT. The quay is on the upper reaches of the river Fal and was built in pre-Roman times and is more than 2,350 years old. Due to its age, I have been asked not to place any caches on the quay.
It was used to load tin and copper from Cornwall's famous mines onto trading boats, that were often moored five at a time at the ramps built into the quay's walls. These ramps enabled the boats to be loaded by cart.
Often from the quay, it is possible to see ocean going ships laid up, most commonly reefers, car carriers and other cargo vessels. One of the unique features of the river Fal is its channel depth, even this far inland, the channel is almost 30m
At the top of the steps up from the quay, is a promontory Iron Age fort within the woodland, some of which can be seen if you take a good look.
Thanks to the National Trust for permission to hide these caches.
