Geocache Description:

This two-part multi-cache will take you on a tour of the Great Swamp in Amesbury, MA. The Great Swamp, part of Bartlett Reservation, consists of over 250 acres of pristine cedar and deciduous swamp habitat. It is adjacent to the Amesbury Town Forest and Woodsom Farm. The cache is a lock 'n lock container with room for small trades and trackables.


Note, due to the proximity of parts of the trail to houses, caching after dark is not allowed for this cache.

PART 1

Follow the steps below to obtain the coordinates to the next waypoint.

  1. The posted coordinates will take you to the information sign in the parking lot.
  2. Using the information seen in the sign, solve the following math equation to find "A":
    A=(((the number of letters in the 9th word) + (the number of letters in the 10th word)) * (the number of letters in the 4th word)) - (the number of letters in the 3rd word)
  3. Using the information seen in the sign, solve the following math equation to find "B" (round down your answer):
    B=((last four numbers in line 6) / the number of letters in the 11th word) + 136
  4. Substitute the numbers for "A" and "B" to obtain the coordinates of the next waypoint:
    N 42 51.A W 070.57.B
  5. You can verify your coordinates using checksum for the north and west coordinates. The North checksum = 27 (add up all the individual numbers in the north coordinates). The West checksum = 33 (add up all the individual numbers in the west coordinates).

PART 2

Follow the steps below to obtain the coordinates to the final location.

  1. Locate the sign using the coordinates from "PART 1".
  2. Take the 10-letter word found in the sign and translate the letters into numbers (for example, A=1, B=2, C=3,…Z=26)
  3. Solve the following math equation to find "C":
    C=(first number) / 2
  4. Solve the following math equation to find "D":
    D=(fourth number * ninth number) + (first number) + (second number) + (third number) + (sixth number) + (tenth number)
  5. Substitute the numbers for "C" and "D" to obtain the coordinates of the final location:
    N 42 51.C W 070.57.D
