THE PILKINGTON LIBRARY
The Library was named after Lord Harry Pilkington (died 1983, aged 78), first Chancellor of the University1966-1980 and Chairman of Pilkington Brothers, glass manufactures, 1949-1973. He opened the Pilkington Library in 1980. It covers 7,777 square metres over three floors with 900 study places, including 140 workstations.
It houses over 600,000 books, 90,000 bound serials and access to over 10,000 e-journals.
The library underwent a major refurbishment in 2014.
This cache is a short distance away from the library and opposite the Fruit Route information board. If you have time, the Fruit Route is well worth trying - especially when the various fruits are in season.
