The mighty Q38 is an odd route as it winds its way through Forest Hills, Corona, Rego Park, Middle Village, Ridgewood, Maspeth and Elmhurst. It is the only regular transit route in the city that ends within a few minute walk of where it starts. This odd configuration stems from the combination of two routes...the Q50 which ran along Elliott Avenue from 69th Street to Rego Park and the original Q38 that ran between Fresh Pond Road and Corona along Metropolitan Ave. The original Q38 was started in June 1934 when it was operated by the Allied Bus Transit Corporation. Allied was later acquired by Triboro Coach which was then acquired by the city in 2006. It is currently serviced out of the College Point Depot.
The route travels on 63rd Drive, Penelope Avenue, Juniper Valley Road, Metropolitan Avenue and Elliott Avenue. It services the Queens Blvd subway at 63rd Drive and Woodhaven Blvd and the Metropolitan Avenue line at Metropolitan Avenue. Because it runs almost in a circle. it serves the M train at both ends. It will also get you to the many malls along Queens Blvd.
