Welcome to McDaniel Farm Park. You will be looking for a medium sized container close to one of the trails. Please be sure to bring a pen and plenty of water, and replace as you found it. It would be great to see pictures of the area during various times of the year.
This historic park is located between Old Norcross Road and GA Hwy 120, just northeast of Gwinnett Place Mall. The original 125-acre parcel remained relatively unchanged from the 1820 land lottery drawing to the mid-2000’s when Gwinnett County developed it into a park. Similar to many Georgia farms, this property was a subsistence farm meaning that the McDaniel family used the acres of land to produce everything they needed to live. Using timber from the property, the farm house was built in 1874 and the barn was built in the early 1900s. This typical Gwinnett County farm provides a glimpse into the daily life of Georgia farmers throughout history. As did many farmers, the McDaniel’s housed tenant farmers on their land to help with many of the farm duties. The earliest documented sharecropper is 1913 and the most recent is 1941. Records indicate at one time there were two tenant farmer houses built in the very early 1900s. Only one of these structures still exists today.
There are two entrances to this park. If you are meeting up with someone, be sure to note which entrance to meet at. You can find the parking waypoints attached to this cache page. This historic area is a popular spot for photographers. If you approach this cache from the South Entrance, you will pass the tenant house. Please pay attention to the posted signs and those around you.
