This cache can be located at the end of Back Fork of the Elk River Road out of Webster Springs, WV. There are quite a few places to check out while traveling down the road to the cache. The first is one of the largest trees on the East Coast, a Sycamore. The National Forest has built a swinging foot bridge across the Back Fork to get to this tree. coord's: N38 deg 30.631 W80 deg 21.912. The short trail is easy to follow to this amazing tree. The Hemlock growing in the forks of the Sycamore (about 75 feet up) is difficult to see in the summer due to the leaves of the other trees surrounding it. There is also a small picinic shelter here.
There are many places where the river pools offering up safe areas to hop in and take a swim. The fishing here is also excellent for trout and bass. The best swimming spot is where you'll see the reminants of an old house with the chimney still up.
If you are in a car or don't have enough clearance, you will need to stop a little short of the cache (this will only add about 200 feet to the hike) coords to stop at: N38 deg 31.028 W80 deg 21.523. If you have 4 wheel drive you can continue on down to the falls on the back fork.
This area is frequented by locals on ATV's so we placed the cache well off the trail.
Be sure to hang out here and enjoy the falls. The pictures here are from very high water after a substantial rainfall.
It looks as if someone is ready to do some construction around the falls. Please notify me if the cache is in danger.
