You can no longer find a Dog n Suds for a foot long chili dog and refreshing drink served in a signature frosty mug without a trip to Norton Shores or Montague. Beginning in the late 1950’s, one might have earned a degree at “Rover College” in Champaign, IL as they prepared to open their own franchise. But the remnants of some of these curb service restaurants by friendly car hops can still be seen in the Grand Rapids area. As you travel from site to site, see if you can imagine pulling up in the family station wagon, studying the menu board and pushing the red call button to place your order. A car hop on roller skates delivered you meal to your car while mom and dad kept reminding you to “be careful and don’t spill” as you sipped on your frosty mug of root beer and downed your chili dog with a smile.
Watch for muggles and bring your own pen.
