Beehive Mountain Summit Traditional Cache

Beehive Mountain Summit can be accessed following a ford of the Oldman River and the following of a good trail (recently maintained) to the GDT (Great Divide Trail). Travel to this cache site involves over 1000 meters in elevation gain from the trail head with numerous loose rocks, steep terrain and roots along the trail. Caution is advised at all times on this back country hike.

Beehive Mountain Summit is a regular sized Ammo Can container with only a cache note, logbook and pencils.

Travel to this location requires adequate preparation with appropriate hiking gear – shoes, bear spray, snacks and water.

Trip Notes:

1. Oldman River Road Washout - from this point it is a 2.3 km bike or hike to the Oldman River ford and back country trail to Beehive Mountain.

2. After fording the Oldman River follow the Beehive Mountain Trail to the GDT (Great Divide Trail) - see the TH coordinates for the beginning of the trail following the river ford.

3. Follow the GDT north and find a reasonable spot to traverse up the slope towards Beehive to pick up the trail which will take you to the drain on the northwest side of the mountain. Be sure to stay low and off the scree until almost at the Bad Moon Rising Cache - head up the drain at this point.

4. Find the obvious weakness on the NW slope and scramble up scree or for better stability one of the drains.

5. Once past the lower rock band it's a scree bash to the summit.
