English
DANFORCE, in Danish: Den Danske Brigade, was a military unit, was established in Sweden on November 15, 1943. The members were mainly former members of the Danish resistance and military personel, that had escaped to Sweden during the occupation of Denmark.
It was an infantry unit of approx. 5,000 men under the command of Danish officers. The members were well trained, however, the lack of heavy armoury gave the unit little value during battle. It was considered an allied unit and as such the forming of the unit in the neutral Sweden, had to be approved by the Swedish government. The primary tasks were guard duties, mainly at the borders.
On May 5, 1945 the Brigade landed in Elsinore and marched towards Copenhagen to perform their duties.
