Half a block up the street is a delicious bbq joint, which you'll likely smell as you search for this cache. Across the street is an empty lot that loooong ago was the site of a plantation and also the St. Mary's Orphan Boys' Asylum.
I would recommend daylight hours only for this cache, though if you do find yourself in this part of town at night and are feeling a little thirsty, I would recommend a few of the bars in the vicinity: Bacchanal for wine and live music and fancyish food, Vaughns for a neighborhood bar that's a great spot to watch a Saints game or see Kermit Ruffins on Thursday nights, and BJs for a small neighborhood dive bar. I've never come across a cache container quite like this, though I've seen some similar variations on this idea. I'm curious if people have found similar ones anywhere else. Bison tubes and key safes get the job done, but I really love those caches that have some kind of unusual type of container. Good luck!
