About the Namaqua Rock Mouse:

Namaqua Rock Mice vary in colour and in the length of their tails throughout their wide distribution range. The upper parts of their bodies are reddish-brown to yellowish-brown. In some parts of their range they have a profuse mixture of black-tipped hair. The hair on their under parts may be pure white or, particularly on the upper chest and flanks, the hairs may have grey bases which impart a greyish colour to these sections. They are found throughout South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, and Botswana with the exception of parts of the Namib Desert and parts of the Kalahari where there are no rocky areas. They are nocturnal, terrestrial, and to some extent arboreal. Small colonies live in rock crevices, holes in trees, in or under fallen logs or in piles of debris. They harvest grass and other seeds.
