A green plastic container about the size and shape of a beverage can is hidden in an obvious location offering a 360 degree view. This geocache is hidden in a crevice on the side of a boulder with a flat top, that's covered with green lichen on the side facing Helena. This geocache is located along the continental divide, on a local point of elevation maximum that offers great views.
There is no trail to this geocache. It is located on public land. This geocache is almost exactly on the continental divide, and also close to a section line, dividing sections numbered 35 and 2. There is a fence along this section line, and this geocache is located on the north side of this fence, on the Helena Valley side of the fence. This geocache location can be accessed in summer or winter, but this geocache will not be findable when more than a few inches of snow have accumulated. This geocache can be accessed from more than one road parking area, with an ascent of up to 500 feet depending on where you park. The hiking can be more or less strenuous, depending on which way you choose for access. Hiking up from the east involves a steep dense forest, whereas approaching from the west offers more open terrain. Parking at the Nordic ski trails parking area accesses a steep climb of about 500 feet, but less distance than parking at the historical marker just west of MacDonald Pass. The shortest and easiest access is to hike from a dirt road that leaves highway 12 just west of the historical marker, that's just west of MacDonald Pass. This road leads north several hundred feet to the fence along the section line. The geocache is in the trees at the top of the open, southwest facing meadow. Wear orange clothing during hunting season.
