Geocache Description:

While out searching for both Earthcache locations and Trailmarkers for the International Earthcache Day Virtual 5k run, we have run accross several neat hide locations and/or viewpoints to the valleys below.  This is one of those but with a geological twist, a cutaway view of past glacial activity!  Enjoy the hike, view,  and find!

A 15-20 minute hike along a poorly marked snowmobile trail.  Rocky in places with a moderate inclines, especially for the last 100'.  You can not walk a straight line to this cache, watch for and follow the orange snowmobile poles and Diamond waymarkers in the trees around Hole-y-Rock waypoint

Once at GZ you are standing on top of a rockpile "exposed" by glacial activity of years ago! This is not a "Moraine" which is "deposited" by glaciers. We hope to soon post a nearby Earthcache explaining the process. Looking back slightly to the right (East) of the way you have just come, you will see the exposed "end" of a rock pile similar to what you are standing on.  They used to be joined!   How about the "SPLIT" rock in front of you?   The Geology of Grand Mesa is all about Fire and Ice - Lava and Glaciers.
