Give yourself plenty of time as there is hiking involved and you will have to drive to each location, but all 3 locations are inside the park. Only look for this during park hours. Bring a pen and paper as you will have to figure out a code to get your next set of coordinates. I will provide part of the coordinates and you must figure out the rest. Remember to always stay on trails and paths.
Step 1: The first set of coordinates will take you to the Jim Bailey Nature Trail. Carefully make your way through this 3/4 mile trail. Along the trail, you will find signs naming the 7 principles of "leave no trace". Take the first letter of the first word of each "principle" and using the chart below, decode the coordinates to the next step on the cache. For example, if the first letter of the first word is A, the number would be 9. I've provided partial coordinate, decode to fill in the blanks.
Coords for step 2: N36 __ . __ __ __ W87 17. __ __ __
A/9 B/3 C/0 D/1 E/7 F/1 G/5 H/2 I/8 J/3 K/0 L/6
M/5 N/6 O/4 P/5 Q/9 R/2 S/1 T/4 U/3 V/7 W/4
[Just a heads up.. At one point the trail appears to take a right turn down a hill. Don't go that way, you want to keep left as this will loop you back around to where you started.]
Step 2: The coordinates should have taken you to a building. There is a sign that tells the history of that building. There are 2 Samuels named on the sign. What is the last name of the first Samuel mentioned? Use that last name and the chart above, from step 1, to fill in the blanks for the coordinates to the final step.
N36 __ . __ __ 6 W87 17. __ __ __
Step 3: Are you at a bridge? If so, congratulations, you've made it to the final step! Here you will find a small container with a log book and some small trade items. There could be lots of muggles at times so use stealth. Please replace container as you found it and hide well so that curious muggles don't stumble upon it. The coords may be a tad off because the actual hiding spot might change around a bit depending on muggle activity and rise in water level but they will put you in the general vicinity.
Additional Info: Please be careful on the trail. It's not difficult, but there can be rocks and tree roots that you could trip on and there's a slight elevation change. Wear proper footwear. There is plenty of parking near each step, but a short hike is required. Remember "Cache In, Trash Out". It's always a great idea to bring a small bag with you as sometimes litterbugs leave behind trash. Let's help keep the park beautiful!!
Congrats to Jynnee, EpicGirls239, and mlbmajors for FTF!
Have fun and enjoy The Montgomery Bell Challenge! Post pics if you'd like!
