Geocache Description:

The Cohn Farm, like so many others throughout the area represents the story of how a largely agricultural society that thrived for thousands of years evolved into an industrial-driven society and eventually a technology-based society in only a few hundred years.

As old-style farmers in New Jersey began to age and die, most of their children had begun to gravitate toward careers that were no farm-related.

The old farmers had raised their families by laboring on comparatively small farms with as little as 50 acres to some with a few hundred acres. One by one beginning at the end of World War II, those farms became the sites of large housing developments, shopping malls and business complexes.

The township used a combination of money from the Randolph Township Open Space Fund, the state Green Acres Program, and the Morris County Open Space Fund to purchase the Cohn Farm and the neighboring Ellison Farm. The purchases added approximately 85 acres to the township’s open space inventory.

For many years, Cohn had operated a farm stand on Center Grove Road, just down the road from his farm.

The Randolph Township Historic Geotrail tour project was developed between Randolph Township and The Northern New Jersey Cachers, NNJC.org who have partnered, volunteered their time, expertise and assistance and help develop and implement the Randolph History tour and Geotrail.

The Randolph Geotrail caches are placed with approval by Randolph Township Parks department, any new caches will only be allowed by first obtaining written permission by Randolph Township.
