Geocache Description:

The Turrbal people call this area 'Warra' which means 'an open sheet of water'.

What an amazing geographical spot you are at.

I first came along here while chasing IF's Pet Rocks.

Back then you could ride along 90% of the Shorncliffe Bluff.

Sadly with years of the ocean crashing its waves against the unprotected bluff erosion has washed away the path and now 60% of the bluff is just beach covered in shells with the occasional piece of sea glass.

The cliffs you are standing at are made up of Triassic Sedimentary rocks.

There is a clearly visible fault line running through the cliffs.

Below the fault line you can see Conglomerate, Breccia and Grit rocks.

Above the fault line there are two Sandstone beds separated by Carbonaceous Shale.

Along the shore you will find pieces of Pumice, sea glass and lots and lots of shells.

At the northern end of the bluff you will see large scale folding associated with faults.

The fold and faults along here have been interpreted by geologists to be the result of gravitational sliding of the soft sedimentary rocks followed by compression and buckling.

The tonnes of huge Granite boulders at the southern end of the bluff are not native to the area. They have been placed in layers to protect the beach from further erosion .
