The Church:
Less than six miles from the centre of Birmingham, Olton (or 'Oulton', meaning 'old town' to distinguish it from the 'new town' of Solihull) remained a largely agricultural settlement until the arrival of the railway and the opening of its station in 1869.
The expansion of the village led to the building of its own small parish church, St. Margaret's, begun in 1880 as a chancel and completed in 1896. It has red sandstone-faced walls, no tower and round piers with “well carved naturalistic flower capitals”
