Geocache Description:

This cache will give you a nice little tour of Winfield WV!


Location 1

 

  • A- Find the date John G Anderson died and subtract the year on the Geological Survey bench marker. The plaque is near a tree.

  • B- Find the year on the state historic marker sign and add the first two numbers together.

  • C- Using the same year as in B subtract the third number from the second number.

  • D- Locate the year on the building (look up) what is the second number?

  • E-Find the year on the Putnam Freedom Bell and the start year on the World War memorial. Subtract those dates. Then subtract the number of men that have been added after the memorial was made.

  • F- How long did the war last? Add 1

  • G- The year the Boilermaker Union presented the monument minus the year the World War started, then add the number of men added after the memorial was made.

     

    Location  2

  • H- The day Captain Philip J Thurmond died, add 5.

  • I- On the Quilt pattern subtract the number of white strips from the number of red strips, then add the number of stars.

  • J- On the “scolding Pot” how many letters are in the first 4 lines on the sign? Now subtract the number of letter E.

  • K- On the Boy Scout plaque at the “Scolding Pot” add the month to the first two number of the year then add the last two numbers of the year. Then add how many letters are in Eagle Scout.

    Example: 11/ 1987 (11+19=30 30+87=117)

  • L- How many stones make the arrow of freedom?

  • M- Add the month and day Capt. Thurmond died.

Location 3

 

 

  • N- Find the picture by Anita Carden, how many letter are in the Title, subtract 2.

  • O- The Mary Ingles Trail is approximately what percent of Mary’s journey back home?

  • P- The last two numbers of the year Mary Ingles mother died, plus 40.

  • Q-Add the number of letters in the title (in red), plus 1.

  • R- How many miles was Mary Ingles and her German friend away from home when they escaped plus the route number(on the sigh) the trail is on, then add an extra 125.
