Many years ago the AdieA family, dad, mom and three youngsters, visited the USA. The trip was undertaken mainly to take the children to Disney World in Florida. Seeing as it was the trip of a lifetime, it was decided that more of that great country would have to be visited, so Amtrak train tickets were purchased and we crossed the whole country, catching the famous Sunset Limited train, starting in Florida. We travelled for days, passing through Jacksonville, New Orleans, Houston, San Antonio, Phoenix and onward to Los Angeles.
Arriving at the beautiful Union Station in Los Angeles we collected our rental vehicle and set off down the Highway (or Route) 1 towards Oceanside, the city where we were going to spend the week. Just south of Santa Monica one takes the (in)famous I405, aka San Diego Highway, to travel south towards Route 101, this takes you through Oceanside, Carlsbad, Leucadia, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar and the Torrey Pines State Park area and on down to San Diego.
These enormous highways, with multi-lanes and jam packed most of the time, were very interesting and afforded good driving to San Diego and San Ysidro.
This area, where Hendrik Potgieter and the N1 and very close neighbours, and there are in reality 16 lanes of roadway next to one another, reminds of that stretch of highway in the US.
