During exploration on Hunter's Island recently, I was excited to show BriGuyNY an island he hadn't seen. He had the great idea we should hide a cache and show everyone. The story of Joe Two Trees is a fascinating one. Come see where he lived. Breath-taking views of Long Island Sound from this island. Many smaller islands visible from the east side of the island. Parking fees apply from Memorial Day-Labor Day

Joe Two Trees was the last Algonquin Indian who lived. Most of the members of Joe’s Turtle Clan had either been killed or sold into slavery, and by the age of thirteen he was alone in the world. He made his way into Manhattan, but was forced to flee after killing a robber in self defense. Around the time of the Civil War, Joe returned to his birthplace to live out his life alone—suspended between a lost culture and an alien one. He lived quietly in Pelham Bay Park, a wild and isolated corner of New York City. Years later, as an old man, he entrusted his legacy to a young Boy Scout who became his only friend. This story inspired the book The Last Algonquin.
Check tides before coming out at tides.willyweather.com. Please be careful around the PI, which is plentiful on the island.
A hearty congratulations to Behistun! He literally paid for this FTF!
